According to Mulyasa (2013: 7), the ability or skill to make garnishes will basically be better if honed and trained to increase abilities so that they become experts or master one of the existing fields. In class X SMK Negeri 1 Karanganyar, the material for making food and beverage garnishes is not optimal. The creativity of students in making garnishes is not too visible. As a result, the garnishes displayed are monotonous from each group. This is because students do not have the motivation and enthusiasm to display attractive garnishes. Students assume that making garnishes is just completing school assignments to complete these basic competencies.
In fact, this is an initial provision so that students have the skills to be applied in the world of work. For this reason, it is necessary to find a solution so that the creativity and enthusiasm of students grows. One option is to use social media such as Instagram. The use of Instagram is certainly no stranger to students. Almost all students have social media that has these interesting features.features Instagram adding music and writing can make the garnish look more attractive.
Learning to make garnishes is carried out in the following steps; First, the teacher conveys the learning objectives. Second, the teacher conveys the procedure or learning flow. Third, students are grouped according to members of 5 people. The group has bee divided at the previous meeting. Each group prepares fruits and vegetables to be used as garnishes. Next, students pay attention to the teacher giving examples of techniques for making garnishes. Giving
examples only briefly because the manufacturing technique has been explained in the previous meeting. The next step, the teacher frees students to be creative by looking for references from various sources or experimenting on their own. The teacher also gives freedom to students to use Instagram. Students may document activities in the form of photos or videos.
In groups, students begin to make garnishes. Finished making garnishes, the teacher gave appreciation and input. Next, students edit and upload their work on Instagram. In uploading, students add hashtags so that more people can see. The use of Instagram in learning to make garnishes is proven to be able to increase the creativity of students. Students are more enthusiastic when making because their work is seen by many people. Creativity and passion is what makes garnishes more attractive.
