Distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has many challenges for educators. The challenge is not only about the activeness of students in participating in learning but also character education cultivators. Students tend to think character education is something that is not important because it is not included in the daily assessment or daily test. 

Whereas character education for students is very necessary. Character education can shape students to have attitude intelligence. From this, SDN Pudak Payung 01 requires teachers to create learning programs that can improve the character education of students. Character education is important for the advancement of moral education in Indonesia. Salahudin and Alkrienciechie (2013: 42) explain that character is a characteristic of a person or group of people that contains values, abilities, moral capacity, and persistence in facing difficulties and challenges. 

According to Samani and Hariyanto (2013: 45) in their book explains that character education is a process of giving guidance to students to become fully human beings with character in the dimensions of heart, thought, body and taste and intention. Furthermore, character education according to Salahudin and Alkrienciechie (2013: 42) can be interpreted as moral education or character education to develop one's ability to behave well in daily life. 

Character education through distance schooling when students are school from home (school from home). can still be monitored and controlled by the teachers. One of them is by providing a character control sheet. There are many positive characters that can be developed by teachers according to the core competencies of the 2013 curriculum, such as being religious, honest, disciplined, responsible, caring, tolerant, cooperative, polite, confident, etc. Teachers can develop control sheets to give to students and to parents. The control sheet is assessed by the teacher, after which the teacher provides feedback. The teacher then strengthens the characters that are already good and changes the characters that are still not suitable. Teachers can also give awards (prizes) to students who excel at least by congratulating students' WA groups, and giving punishments (punishments) through private WA channels so that their good names are maintained and students do not feel humiliated in front of friends - her friend. 

Students can also be congratulated if they do their assignments on time and are punished if they are late for assignments as a form of inculcating disciplined character. When there is news that a student cannot do an assignment because he does not have an internet quota, the teacher can invite his classmates to transfer credit as a form of instilling empathy and caring characters. Teachers and homeroom teachers must always control every word written by students in the student-student WA group as a form of planting polite and polite characters in speaking and being responsible for all their words and actions. 

The planting of character education for students, especially at SDN Pudak Payung 01 is always escorted by teachers and school principals. The planting of character education at SDN Pudak Payung 01 is expected to be able to develop the potential of students to think well, be kind, and behave well. Strengthening the role of families, educational units, and the community. Sorting out the culture of one's own nation and being able to filter out the cultures of other nations that are not in accordance with the values ​​of the character and culture of their own nation. Creating a generation of noble character in order to realize the goals of national education.
