Today we will discuss the easiest method for calculating the required number of bricks in a wall. So let's start at the beginning.
Data required:
1. Volume of the wall.
2. Volume of a standard brick.
3. Details of openings in the wall.
Procedure :
1. First, calculate the volume of the wall to be built.
Suppose:
The length of the wall (l) = 3 meter.
The height of the wall (h) = 3 meter.
Wall thickness (b) = 0.30 meters.
1-Calculate the volume of the wall by multiplying the length, height and thickness:
Wall volume = l×h×b = 3×3×0.30 = 2,700 m3
2. Calculate the volume of the brick:
the standard dimension of a brick (IS standard) is 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm and with the mortar joints it becomes 200 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm.
l = 200 mm = 0.20 meter.
b = 100 mm = 0.10 meter.
h = 100 mm = 0.10 meter.
Volume of the brick =
l×b×h = 0.20× 0.10× 0.10 = 0.002 m3
3. To find the total number of bricks, divide the volume of the wall by the volume of the brick.
Number of bricks needed = 2.7/0.002 = 1350 unit of bricks.
Note :
1. Consider 10% wasted bricks.
2. If the wall has openings such as doors, windows, etc., subtract the volume of openings from the volume of the wall, then divide by the volume of brick.
