Layer2? Configure Metamask With Matic (Polygon), xDai and ZKSwap
Of The Binance Smart Chain we had already talked about it here: Complete Guide For The Binance Smart Chain (Autofarm, Beefy, Pancake, etc) and Configure Metamask With the Binance Smart Chain.
If you want to understand how to use Metamask go here: How Metamask Works: Add Tokens, Adjust Gas, Change Network.
Other DeFi: How To Configure Avalanche With Metamask (Avax), How To Configure Fantom On Metamask And Farming On Abracadabra And How The Cronos Chain Works: IBC, Metamask And Transfers On The Chain.
We had already talked about the advantages of Layer2 here: Ethereum, The Lowering Of Fees and The Deflation: Layer2, Berlin, London and How to Configure Arbitrum and Optimism on Metamask (Layer2).
Certainly Ethereum will try to address the gas problems that have gripped the network for some time and this should happen with the next updates. Layer2 allows you to streamline their network by transferring smart contracts on a blockchain parallel to the Eth mainnet (offchain), this not only lowers fees but also makes it faster (scalable). Some Eth protocols, for example Loopring and Synthetix are already testing Layer2.
There are whole networks (independent of Eth) that already use Layer2 and these are Matic (Polygon), xDai (POA Network) and ZKSwap. Skale, Loom, OMG can also be mentioned.
MATIC NETWORK
Matic (Polygon), born as Eth's Erc20, currently administers an Ethereum Proof Of Stake (POS) sidechain using the Plasma framework to process off-chain operations. Version 1 of the software development kit (SDK) for Layer2 aggregation will go live in March 2021, said Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal. Polygon will support multiple Layer2 solutions such as Optimistic Rollups (OR), zkRollups (ZKR) and Validium, effectively making it an L2 aggregator. This approach, implemented through Polygon's modular SDK, will allow projects to select the scalability solution that best suits their needs rather than being constrained. Some ETH tokens are turning to various forms of rollups such as ZKR or OR. Rollups are a throughput technology for verifying off-chain transactions that are then reposted on-chain. Polygon will also be able to launch entire blockchains, similar to Parity Technologies' Substrate. Blockchains launched on Polygon inherit the security assumptions of the underlying Ethereum blockchain, just as Substrate-based chains can connect to the Polkadot ecosystem to achieve security.
Polygon SDK is designed to accommodate and aggregate all these types of solutions, including rollups. Currently, Polygon SDK will allow the creation of standalone chains as Substrate for Polkadot.
Some big DeFi projects such as Maker and Decentraland have already integrated the Matic infrastructure.
Matic had launched its mainnet on June 20, 2020, allowing staking and initiating deposits and withdrawals.
MATIC NETWORK CONFIGURATION
Matic uses a double consensus architecture (Plasma + Proof Of Stake platform) to optimize speed and decentralization. Chains are also EVM enabled.
There are no supply changes using the bridge: the coins leaving the ETH network are blocked and the same number of coins is minted on the Matic network in a 1: 1 ratio.
To bring the tokens back to the Ethereum network, the created tokens are burned and re-unlocked on ETH.
Matic, also following the listing on Coinbase, has increased by 350% in the last 30 days and by 2300% in the last year.
Well, then how to take advantage of this network? Just configure Metamask.
Once you have downloaded Metamask and selected "Custom RPC" from the drop-down menu, just select "Custom RPC Settings" and enter the Matic network details below:
Mainnet Matic Network
Network Name: Matic Mainnet
New RPC URL: https: // rpc -mainnet.maticvigil.com/
Chain ID: 137
Symbol: MATIC
Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.matic.network/
Here we can put our Matic in staking and choose a validator: Wallet Matic Network (Staking)
FROM ETH TO MATIC
Once this is done, I can transfer liquidity from Eth to Matic through Bridge and then take advantage of the swaps between one token and another on Matic at low cost.
Through a POS Bridge it also allows fast transfers from the Eth network to that of Matic (just connect with Metamask and we will see our Eth tokens that we can transfer to Matic Layer2; this is the only step in which I will pay Eth gas).
Another bridge is this: Hop Exchange
CROSS CHAIN BRIDGE
Another solution is 0 Exchange a cross chain bridge that supports BSC, Avalanche and of course Polygon.
FROM AN EXCHANGE TO MATIC (WITHOUT PAYING THE ETH GAS)
It is also possible not to go through the Eth network, using the AscendEx or the cheaper Mexc Global (I can directly buy a coin there and make the withdrawal on your wallet using the chain of Polygon or I can always transfer my tokens on this exchange and then do the same thing by making the withdrawal on my Matic wallet).
To swap between Matic tokens I can use Quickswap Exchange
Here we find other services connected to Matic: Matic Network (Dapp) and Defillama (Polygon)
To add the token contracts of the Matic network (either as a custom token on Metamask or perhaps to add the token to a dex to exchange it): Mapper Matic
POA NETWORK: XDAI
It is a little known but very interesting network thanks to xDai.
xDai is a stablecoin with its own mainnet that operates on a blockchain parallel to that of Ethereum. It allows you to make transactions with very low commissions on gas (1 Gwei!) And to create a block in just 5 seconds. Again thanks to Layer2.
The birth of this project was made possible thanks to a partnership between POA Network and MakerDAO (which creates Dai classics that run on the Ethereum network).
The native token xDai is tied to the value of Dai with a rate of 1: 1. The Smart Contracts of this protocol offer a certain degree of compatibility with the other EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) chains. The correct performance of the network is guaranteed by a group of validators that implement a consensus process for transactions.
But why use xDai? The transaction cost is significantly lower than Dai (I can send 500 transactions for 1 cent!) And the network is much faster.
If I have to create a dapp that requires the continuous use of stablecoin ... xDai is definitely the best choice! It is possible to convert Dai into xDai using Dai Bridge which acts as a bridge between the Ethereum blockchain and the xDai mainnet (just connect Metamask, this time using the Ethereum network with our Dai, and then convert them to xDai from the site itself; beware of the new ones xDai I will not see them in the Ethereum Mainnet but I will have to configure on Metamask ... the xDai mainnet that we will see shortly).
Obviously to do this we will have to add xDai mainnet to our Metamask.
Same process as seen above for Matic: open Metamask and select "Custom RPC" from the drop-down menu. Then select "Custom RPC Settings" and enter the xDAI network details below:
- Mainnet xDai
- Network Name: xDai
- New RPC URL: https://rpc.xdaichain.com/
- Chain ID: 0x64 (100)
- Symbol: xDai
- Block Explorer URL : https://blockscout.com/poa/xdai
In this way we will read the balance of our xDai that we have converted. By connecting to any site or exchange that supports xDai we will be able to use this mainnet for payments: completely decentralized, fast and with low fees.
ZKSWAP
ZKSwap is a decentralized AMM (Uniswap type) based on Layer2 and uses ZK Rollup technology. What does this mean? That the fees are practically absent.
Once on the site, just select "Ropsten Test Network" from Metamask and connect. Once this is done I will see my balance. At this point I can transfer my resources from ETH to the new Layer2 network (in this first step I will pay for the gas). I will have to copy my Metamask Ropsten address and go to Ethereum Ropsten Test Token Faucet to get Ropsten ETH (I will get test tokens: WBTC, Dai, BAT). At this point I will be able to use the ETH tokens on this Layer2.
The addresses are the same. ZKSwap supports 30 tokens to be exchanged on Layer-2, including ZKS, ETH, USDC, WBTC, HBTC, SUSHI, UNI, 1INCH, LON, WQTUM, AAVE, LRC, ALPHA, DODO, CREMA, YFI, GT, MX, SNX, RUNE, MKR, LINK, BNB, HT, OKB, REN, YFII, BADGER, DAI and USDT.
OTHER MAINNETS
I remind you that there are other extensions (or wallets) for the mainnet of each cryptocurrency. Why are they important? Because sometimes it is the only way to receive tokens from that mainnet from an airdrop, giveaway or simply if you want to move them from an exchange.
For Tron: Tron Link
For Polkadot: Polkadot Js
For Zilliqa: Zillet
For DigiByte (where you can also receive digital assets): DigiWallet
Finally, I remember that we have created an eBook to find new 1000x shitcoins, to learn more: How to Find New Shitcoins From 1000x
