My end of September fall home decor tour continues today with my living room! When I decorated in here a few weeks ago, it was still full on summer in the 90s. Today it is still warmer in the 80s, but later this week will be a cool down. Since it's been so hot..and I love it!...I went a little more subtle this year in terms of my fall decor. At least I feel like I did! There are still quite a few pumpkins, just the colors are more subdued. Last year, I embraced the rusts and oranges, this year...not so much.
The archway into my living room is actually what sold me on this house. I wanted an old house with lots of character. When we were house hunting, there weren't many or they needed a ton more help than my 22 year old self could handle :) All the newer houses were boxes. Straight lights and nothing interesting. So, when we came across this new build, it wasn't like the others. It had a little more character with these arches. Some say they are outdated and to straighten them out, but I still embrace them! I have two others to the right of this picture entering our kitchen and dining room.
I decided it was about time to update this side of my bookshelves. I added texture with the books and greenery and added a few pumpkins in between. And this picture on my TV is just a youtube video full of hours of beautiful fall scenery and music! I stopped it on a favorite scene to get the picture look.
I was tempted to change out all my firewood while I was updating the other bookshelves, but decided to keep them for now. I think as time goes on this season, I'll actually add more to fill them up. I just love the character and natural texture they bring to this space.
As for my fall mantel decor, I was still feeling like spring and summer when doing it :) I added lots of these aged terracotta pots with some pumpkins. I placed some dripping greenery around them. It wasn't until today that I noticed how I didn't have any long pieces on this right side! Ha! Oh well :) Maybe you wouldn't have noticed if I didn't say anything. This old window frame was a find from a vintage market I went to a few weeks back. This garland by the way is from Hobby Lobby. I have the same one on the fall mantel in my front room and love it!
When I replaced my sectional with these two couches, it gave me more angles to work with and show off. Plus, another place to decorate! I love this side table from Antique Farmhouse, along with the candlesticks. I went with some greenery in here that had a small touch of yellow. They looked like how my plants outside are started to look this time of year. Still green, but ready to die ;) ha!

As you can see, neutral fall decor was my theme in here. I accented with faux greens. All my pillows and blankets are super neutral with creams and whites.
This bookcase in the back added the perfect amount of character in here. I had plans to add a lot of my blankets in here, and then I went on an old book finding spree and needed a place for them too!
I updated the top with some other good finds and a couple of pumpkins. I found the brick mold that's holding the pumpkins at that same vintage market. I found some other items around my house and placed them up here like that cool old faux vintage fan.
This area is so cleaned up now compared to how it used to be! I love my vintage elm bench here under the window. Our sweet kitty loves sitting on it staring at all the birds. This cabinet also holds lots of toys! You wouldn't think so, but that bottom drawer and those baskets are chock full of toys.
For my fall coffee table decor, I went with my go-to decor items: candles, lanterns, books and greens! I added a couple of pumpkins to complete the look. I took this macrame table runner off my dining table and had to use it somewhere...I couldn't let it go. :) So, I put it under this tray and love the detail it brings. You can find how I aged these dollar store books in the Autumn Edition of Country Sampler Farmhouse Style Magazine :)
Another thing I moved is this amazing dough bowl. It lived in my front living room for years, and was recently replaced. I couldn't bring myself to put it in the basement for storage, so I made room for it here! I added some faux wheat sprigs, a pumpkin and some old gourds I bought from San Juan Island years ago. My favorite thing to do when I travel is find an antique store and buy at least one thing. These two gourds were one of those things I bought. I love them for easy fall decor since they are so different than the cliché pumpkin :)
