I then used my fave Swiss Coffee by Behr satin enamel paint and applied two coats.
I found this wood applique and applied my favorite Gel Stain by Americana. This stain doesn't have the stench of normal wood stains, so I like to use it for smaller craft projects like this!
I then stenciled on a simple flower design.
I hot glued the applique onto the front of the now white magazine holder.
I decided to rough up the edges a bit. I used my sandpaper and gently rubbed each edge.
I then used the gel stain again and went over the roughed up edges. I went darker on some parts than others.
And that was it for the makeover! Now to repurpose it! I decided to use it as a cute spring centerpiece on my dining room table.
I simply added a square clothe of burlap into the middle, and spread out some faux lambs ear sprigs. I finished it off with a beaded garland.
And since it was so much fun doing the first one, I decided to play around with some other simple design ideas. I'm loving how versatile this can be! To think that we had one of these in our bathroom growing up! Ha! And now another one is gracing my dining table. I try not to think about where this might have been in it's past life.....That's why I gave it a good cleaning, sanding, and painting!
Come check out the full video on the process of this makeover and also how I decorated it on my Instagram stories. I'll save it in the highlighted stories for you also!

Repurposed Magazine Holder DIY
I'm excited to share this easy repurposed magazine holder with you today! At times I struggle with the thought of having to do big projects all the time. Big reveals and big DIYs plague my mind and I feel like unless it's something big like that, it's not worth sharing. I'm working to get over that and take it back to my roots of easy makeovers, repurposed items, and simple home decor that any one can do without owning power tools. Don't get me wrong, I love the big stuff too and will continue to share that. :) Easy and smaller things are fun too and can have as big of an impact!
I'm partnering today with my dear friend, Adele, from Home Chronicles. She's also sharing a thrift store DIY on her Instagram and blog. Go check her out for some more inspiration! You can also see the full video DIY of this and decorating process on my Instagram.
This oak magazine holder... I'm sure you have seen them! Heck, I even gave one away to a thrift store last year. I had an aha! moment and wanted it back just a few months later. Now with the thrift stores open again, I went in to see if I could find one. Silly that I had to buy one again after just giving one away lol. I found this for $4. These things are so prevalent...and well, ugly. But don't discount their potential!
The first step to makeover this old oak magazine holder was to sand it and get all the nasty's off. (Any one else ever feel like they have to shower immediately after visiting a thrift store? haha)
